Abstract
:
The industrial city of Yanbu is considered the second most important industrial city in the kingdom and based on the royal powers granted to it, which entitle it to manage all administrative and development functions. Because of the city's population growth and the increase in the number of factories, the city's administration faced many problems and discovered that the solution lies in applying the concepts of smart cities. This exploratory study will outline and analyze the experiment of Yanbu Industrial City transformation into a smart city. It examines the role of enterprise geographic information systems (ENTERPRISE GIS) as a platform to support and connect multi-functional city systems, explain project phases and implementation methodology, and explore the systems developed by GIS and some of the smart city systems and outputs. The study concluded, the use of geographic information systems as a platform for the development of smart cities would speed up transformation projects for smart cities, and it represents a big difference in the implementation of smart and digital technologies and innovations with high efficiency due to the presence of a strong spatial structure that gives the administrative and geographical dimension strength and capabilities to develop and implement many smart city initiatives.
